Fog lights?

The fogs work with the low beams on, and pull out on the knob. They will not operate with the high beams!
Try it again, and when all else fails, read the manual!!

maybe it needs bulbs?
i hate the fog light assembley on bugs they are crap, save the time money and frustration now, and replace it with a grill without them , lol.

I have a euro light switch and my fogs go off with the high beams. Anybody mod this to keep the fogs on with the highs? On my dodge truck I just had to break a tab off of the relay.

 

This thread belongs in the technical forum, there is hardly a thing about a 2.0 that makes it different from every other NB besides the motor and drivetrain. Please don't post body / trim related stuff in a motor-specific forum.

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OUR 99 nb.. If you have turned the headlight switch to the on position and then pulled the headlight switch toward you with no fog lights coming on , then , chances are .. Burned out fog light bulbs OR, perhaps , in my case, the fog light RELAY was broken and had to be replaced .. refer to service manual for location and replacement procedeure. Hope this helps out .. EVERY CAR OWWNER SHOULD INVEST IN A SERVICE MANUAL. I think they are around $50 for the NB , but most all questions can be answered with one ...

Fog lights are designed to operate low to the ground, and not produce glare! That is why they don't operate with the high beams, as everyone who's ever driven in fog knows you don't do it with the bright lights on, or you blind yourself!!!
It may look cool to have them on with the brights, but NOT IN THE FOG!!!!

In norway it is illegal to use fog lights with high beams.
You can use fog+parking lights during daylight.
Think i've driven in fog once or twice.

Yeah - the mod is to install a Euro light switch. This will add 3 capabilities to your VW. One is to be able to run parking lights with no headlights. Two is to be avble to run your fogs with parking lights and no headlights. Three is that it adds another detent when you pull out the switch for fogs:

US switches have two positions, in for no fogs and out for front fogs. Euro switches have and extra position; pull out once for front fogs, pull a little farther to illuminate the rear fog as well.

There is no 'mod', you need the switch.

 

Also, if the headlight switch is bad, the foglights will not illuminate. Had it fail once on my '00, all lights worked except fogs.

If you pull the switch out and the foglight indicator on the switch doesn't turn green, then they're not on.
